Over the last few weeks, trade rumors have been circling around the league and the Los Angeles Lakers are in the middle of that discussion. NBA Insider, Brandon Robinson reported that the Lakers are looking to trade point guard Lonzo Ball and other players for Pelicans’ star Anthony Davis.
There has been a lot of speculation about the Lakers acquiring another top player ever since Lebron James signed with Los Angeles back in July. Anthony Davis has come up in the discussion lately. Many in New Orleans don’t think Davis will re-sign with them once he becomes a free agent in two years. He can opt out of his contract next year after the 2019-20 season if he chooses. Davis has consistently said that he wants to compete for a championship, but that hasn’t been the case in New Orleans. Back in September, Davis signed with Lebron James’ agent Rich Paul from Klutch Sports.
There’s no question, that if Los Angeles is going to acquire a top player like Anthony Davis, they will have to give up young assets to do so. As the season progresses and the trade deadline gets closer(February 7th), I figure the Lakers will be active in trying to acquire better players and I believe Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and others would be in the middle of the trade talks. While Ball has looked terrible on offense most of the season, Ingram hasn’t developed further since Lebron James has joined the team. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope would be another player on the trade block since he’s a shooter and has an expiring contract after the season. He’d be perfect for a playoff team.
The Lakers have many young pieces that would be desirable to any team in the league. In just happens that they will have to give up a young asset, maybe multiple if they are aggressive in trying to trade for a top tier player.
